Baby Registry Fulfillment: Gift Handling, Multi-Item Orders, and Ship-to-Parent
Updated October 2026
Friends and family buy from one parent's wish list over several weeks. Each of them places a small order, often with a note and wrapping, and nearly every one goes to the parent's door.
Baby registry fulfillment is the picking, gift-handling and shipping of the orders a parent's registry brings in. Most hold several different products, usually carry a message or wrapping, and go to the parent rather than the gift-giver. At Fulfillment.com we:
- print gift messages and wrap gifts on the same scanned line as every other order
- scan the barcode on every item in a multi-item order
- pick formula and baby food first-expired, first-out, and only those dated items
- fit the carton to big nursery items, since carriers charge for the space a box takes up

Why registries differ
One wish list, many small gift orders
A registry starts with one parent and a wish list. Over the following weeks, friends and relatives buy from it one at a time. Each order is small. One person pays for it, someone else receives it, and it almost always comes with a message and often with wrapping.
Most of the buying happens close to the shower and the due date, so a registry can sit quiet for a month and then get busy all at once. Every one of these orders is a gift. A mistake on a gift costs more goodwill than a mistake on a routine reorder.
So a registry order takes more care than a routine one. It needs the message and wrap, the parent's address, a scan on every item, and room for a cart that mixes a stroller with clothes and sometimes formula. All of that happens on our regular line, so the order isn't held up.
Step by step
How a registry order moves through fulfillment
Five things set a registry order apart from a routine one.
1. Gift message and gift wrap
Most registry orders come with a note from the gift-giver, and many ask for wrapping. We print the message and put it in the box. Eligible items are wrapped to a set standard before they are packed. Both happen on the same scanned pick-and-pack line as any other order. Wrapping and messages are finishing work, like kitting, so a gift order never waits in a separate, slower queue. Our value-added services cover how that work is done.
2. Multi-item, mixed-cart accuracy
Registry orders often hold several items, and they are rarely alike. One box might carry a bulky durable, a few pieces of clothing and a small feeding accessory. Our pickers scan each item's barcode where they pick it, so a gift with several items is checked one item at a time, and the contents are scanned again before the box ships.
Picking runs in BestOMS, our order system.
3. Ship-to-parent address and timing
On a registry, the gift-giver pays and the parent receives. Each order carries the gift-giver's message and the parent's address. The team that picked and packed it also chooses the carrier and sends it from the warehouse nearest the parent.
Timing counts most around the shower and the due date. Registry orders follow the same daily cut-off as the rest of your orders, and one that arrives before the cut-off can ship that day. The network they ship from reaches 99.77% of the US in 1-3 day ground.
4. Oversized durables in the cart
Big durables are often the center of a registry. These are heavy, bulky and awkwardly shaped:
- strollers
- cribs
- high chairs
- car seats
Carriers usually bill items like these on dimensional weight, and they take knocks in transit. We pack each one in the smallest carton that still protects it, and a unit too big for parcel goes as LTL or FTL freight, as our guide to shipping heavy nursery durables explains.
5. Dated ingestibles, only where they appear
Some registry carts include infant formula or baby food. Those items have an expiry date, and the durables and clothing in the same cart do not. We pick them first-expired, first-out from stock tracked by lot and expiry date, as finished, sealed goods, and we flag stock that is close to its date before anyone picks it. Our guide to lot and expiry control explains how those dates are tracked.
Channels
Where registry orders come in, and what to tell us
Registry orders arrive the same way as the rest of your orders and draw on one pool of inventory in BestOMS. A registry on your own store and one on a marketplace draw from the same stock, so the same unit is never sold twice.
Name the registries and retailers you sell through when you ask for a quote.
After the gift
Returns and exchanges on registry gifts
Registries bring returns and exchanges almost by design. Parents end up with two of the same thing, the wrong size or stage, or a color they didn't want. We inspect each return and restock only what is fit to sell.
Checking every return keeps a run of duplicate gifts from slowly throwing off your inventory counts. Our returns service handles that work, and the rates for your registry volume and channels come with your quote.
Questions brands ask about registry orders
What is baby registry fulfillment?
It is the picking, gift-handling and shipping of the gifts a parent's registry brings in. Most are small orders that mix several kinds of product, such as durables, clothing and now and then formula or baby food. Many carry a gift message or ask for wrapping, and they ship to the parent instead of the person who bought them. They run through the same warehouse and the same scanned line as the rest of a baby brand's orders, with the gift work and the parent's address added on.
Do you handle gift messages and gift wrap on registry orders?
Yes. We print the message and include it with the order, and we wrap eligible items to a set standard before they are packed. Both are done on our regular scanned pick-and-pack line. It is finishing work of the same kind as kitting, so gift orders don't go down a separate path. Your quote gives the per-order rate.
How do you keep a multi-item registry order accurate?
Our pickers scan the barcode on every item where they pick it, so a five-item registry order gets checked one item at a time. An order with several items is handled more times than a single-item order. A wrong item in a gift turns into a return, a second shipment and a disappointed parent, so getting it right matters to your costs as well. Picking runs in BestOMS, which sits on Deposco, and we scan the contents again before the box ships.
Can a registry order ship to the parent instead of the gift-giver?
Yes, and on a registry that is the usual case. The gift-giver buys and pays, and the order goes to the parent's address with the gift-giver's message inside. The team that picked and packed it also chooses the carrier and ships it from the warehouse nearest the parent. Timing counts around a shower or a due date. Registry orders share the daily cut-off with the rest of your orders, and one that comes in before the cut-off can ship the same day.
How do you handle a mixed registry cart with both durables and consumables?
We handle each item in the cart by what it needs. A big durable goes in the smallest carton that still protects it, and the team that packed it books the carrier or freight. Clothing is folded and protected. Formula or baby food is picked first-expired, first-out from stock we track by lot and expiry date, as a finished, sealed good. Only those dated items are picked by date; the durables and clothing are not.
Do you work with baby registry partners and retailers?
Orders from registry partners and retailers come in through Dropstream, which links storefronts, marketplaces and retailer EDI to one stock pool in BestOMS, so each unit sells once and ships scan-checked from the nearest warehouse. Registry partners and retailers usually have their own routing guide, EDI specification and chargeback rules, so tell us which ones you sell through when you ask for a quote, and we will build the setup around them.
Tell us how your registry sells
Let us know which registry channels you sell through, how many orders you expect and what gift handling you need, and we'll set things up to match. The quote is free, with no strings attached.
