A discovery set is a handful of tiny vials, and each one has to be the right scent, sealed tight and shipped legally. An alcohol-based mini is still a flammable liquid, however small the vial.
Discovery set and rollerball fulfillment means kitting, packing and shipping by ground the smallest formats a fragrance brand sells:
We build each set to your parts list, scan what goes in and pack the tiny units against leaks. An alcohol-based mini is a Class 3 flammable liquid (UN1266), just like a full bottle.

Brands send out discovery sets so a customer can wear a scent before buying the full bottle. A row of minis, a trio of decants or a try-before-you-buy sampler costs the customer little, yet the full-size sale rides on it. For a low-price SKU, it carries a lot of the full-size sale. It is also the easiest to get wrong, because two common assumptions about minis are both false. A tiny vial is no easier to ship. And a tiny vial of alcohol-based perfume is still regulated.
Small format makes leaks and miscounts more likely. Snap-top samples and rollerball caps loosen in transit, and vials that look alike get picked in place of each other. One mini that seeps can ruin every other unit in the box. Size doesn't change the chemistry either: an alcohol-based 2 mL spray is the same Class 3 flammable liquid as a 100 mL flacon.
